Building Boom Town
Seems like you can't go anywhere in Chicago without seeing a crane in the air and our River North neighborhood is no different. With a vast amount of development currently happening, here is what some of the nearest new buildings will be bringing to the area:
Coming to the North West corner of Wells and Ontario is 808 Wells. Designed by the Smithfield Properties group, 808 Wells will not only feature 50 new homes, but also ground floor retail space. Amenities at 808 Wells will include 24 hour door service, a large fitness center with a terrace, additional unit and bike storage, wine storage, and on-site garage parking.
167 W Erie.
While we couldn't find an "official" page for the development opposite of 808 Wells that is taking over the former Gino's East location details continue to become public.
The new 39 story tower will include ground floor retail facing Wells St. and be using the rooftop of the neighboring building for it's amenities deck.
720 N. LaSalle - "HoJo Tower"
Lovingly referred to as the HoJo Tower as it has replaced the former Howard Johnson hotel. The building utilizes a mixture of building materials, a drake brick at the base to help ground the building and masonry which is a material that has been an integral part of Chicago and its neighborhoods for many decades. They wanted to use the masonry in a modern way and not adhere to tradition so rigidly.
A nice touch for the community is the addition of a "pocket park" to help provide a little bit of new green space to River North which will be on the corner of Superior and Wells.
300 W. Huron St.
The closest of the buildings to our 217 W. Huron salon location, but still in proposal phase is 300 W. Huron. This development would be replacing what is currently an empty parking lot on the north side of Huron between Franklin and Orleans.
The current design proposal has height of 289 feet providing space for 71 new condo units beginning at a 2 bedroom, 2000 sq. ft. size. In addition to the residences, there is a total of 16,000 sq. ft. of retail space which we can't help but want to notify Mariano's about. Parking for the building is self contained with 71 parking spaces being contained on the second floor.
The amenity deck, which is quite larger for a boutique condo building, will feature includes a large landscaped rooftop on the podium with a outdoor pool, grilling area, community garden, lawn and separate dog run as well as 1/8 mile running track looping the tower footprint.
